OUR CRAFTSMANSHIP

AARI EMBROIDERY

Aari embroidery is a traditional form of needlework that originates from India, particularly popular in regions like Kashmir and Gujarat. This intricate handcraft is known for its delicate, elegant designs created using a specialized needle called the aari (a long, hooked needle). The technique involves threading the needle with colorful threads and creating elaborate patterns on fabric, often used to decorate sarees, dupattas, lehengas, and other garments.

Aari embroidery is recognized for its fine detailing and can include motifs such as floral designs, paisleys, geometric shapes, and peacock feathers, often blended with embellishments like beads, sequins, and mirrors to add a luxuriousfinish. This form of embroidery is highly valued for its texture, richness, and the artistic skill involved, making it a popular choice for special occasion wear in Indian fashion.

IRULARS & AARI

The Irular people, an indigenous community primarily found in Tamil Nadu and parts of Karnataka, are traditionally known for their expertise in aari embroidery. The Irular women are skilled in this craft, which they use to create intricate patterns and designs on fabric, often using the aari (hooked needle) to stitch fine, detailed motifs.

Historically, the Irular community has also been associated with other traditional crafts such as basket weaving and hunting, but their involvement in aari embroidery has become a significant part of their cultural heritage and livelihood. The embroidery is often used to embellish garments such as sarees, dupatta, and home decor items, blending the art with vibrant threads and beads.

Their expertise in aari embroidery contributes to the rich diversity of India’s textile traditions, particularly in handicraftsand artisan works.
